Kiara Xhallari, Albania

My name is Kiara Xhallari and I am a fourth-year ICT student at the vocational high school 'Pavarësia' in Vlora. When I was in 9th grade, I couldn’t imagine that if I chose the vocational school, I would participate in so many activities, achieve many acknowledgments and get in-depth knowledge about my field of study. Since the first days at the vocational school, I noticed that the academic staff was surprisingly professional and well-prepared. Our teachers constantly encouraged us to complete challenging projects, which made us feel like we had made great achievements.

In my second year, our school established a cooperation with 'Skills for Jobs' project. I think that this cooperation helped every single IT student in my school (and not only!) make their dreams come true. Personally, I started studying more. I had my personal laptop on which I practiced every idea that came to my mind related to the latest technology. I started participating in online courses and got certified on Khan Academy and CISCO Net Academy courses.

Skills for Jobs provided the necessary conditions for a better learning experience, which in turn made it possible for me to improve my skills. Every weekend I could not simply stay at home. I wanted to keep myself busy, develop, learn new things in ICT. I spent every Saturday at school. I wanted to get into my profile more and more each day, and I was increasingly convinced that vocational education was the right choice. In a school like mine, where you have access to modern learning spaces, trained teachers and updated study materials, it is only up to ones’ willingness to excel in their vocational direction.

By participating in many courses, workshops and activities, I have learned many new things and exchanged ideas with professionals with a rich background and admirable career, who I can refer to as role models. Being exposed to these events allowed me to start an apprenticeship in company. Now I am fully convinced of my vocational choice. Today, I feel more mature, more skilled and more fulfilled, but still craving to continuously learn and improve.
