I live in Baze Fulchhari char, a riverine island located about 70km away from the main town, requiring a journey of about four hours by boat and on foot. In 2012, Making Markets Work for the Jamuna, Padma and Teesta Chars (M4C) Project began to work in our char and introduced private agro-input companies. These companies set up plots for different crops to demonstrate how to apply quality micronutrients and fungicides in proper doses. Seeing the results, many farmers began to use the products. By 2014, farmers had increased their maize and chilli production with the use of these quality inputs. As an early user of these practices, I share my cultivation knowledge with fellow farmers. I am grateful to M4C because we receive better information and services from the private companies and public agencies. I sell my produce to traders from the main town and adjacent regions. My frequency of travel to the main town has grown over the past years as my yields have gone up.
