I am a cocoa farmer linked to the Community Association Y de Cucuy, where I serve as president. The biggest challenge we aim to tackle as a cocoa producer association is to achieve organic certification. We had identified several difficulties in the cocoa production chain. Thanks to Swisscontact’s assistance, we have identified and corrected several cocoa production processes, from the production work to the correct performance in the collection centres. All this has been done in order to fulfil the conditions required to meet organic standards. This is how our association has achieved organic certification in cocoa.
Within two years, we hope to have included more producers who want to be part of the Association Y de Cucuy and to be certified organically. To be able to do so, we must improve our organisational management substantially. It has been very important to receive the support from such a prestigious Swiss foundation like Swisscontact. As Association Y de Cucuy, we want to send a fraternal hug to all those who make Swisscontact day by day and tell them that they will always have the doors open in our organisation, whenever they want to visit us.
