I did not have the opportunity to finish secondary school because my parents could not afford the school fees. Every day, I risked becoming a criminal to survive. My friend told me about Swisscontact implementing a project called PROMOST, which helps young people acquire hands-on-skills in different trades to gain self-reliance. I thought it was a unique opportunity for me to overcome poverty and secure an optimistic future for myself. I signed up for one-year apprenticeship training in carpentry and completed it in November 2017. My trainer inspired me by paying me some money for the furniture I made and sold myself. I managed to save enough to buy carpentry equipment and employed two local young carpenters. To date, I have trained many in this trade and plan to expand my activities and own a big carpentry workshop someday.
