I was married when I was in 9th grade and my alcoholic husband abused me every day. Our income was so low that we went to bed without food for several days. My sadness turned to mental trauma when my husband committed suicide 15 days after the birth of my first baby. I felt life was worthless and I had no reason to live. However, my son gave me hope. I came to know about dressmaking training being conducted by the Youth Employment Project (YEP) of Swisscontact in my village and I was one of the 20 participants to be selected for it. Although the training was only three months long, this initiation gave me new perspective towards life and provided an opportunity to earn. Now, I can stitch clothes and bags. This skill helps me generate income for me and my baby. More importantly, this training developed positivity in me. I’ve realised that imparted skills, combined with strong will power, can help you to overcome any situation.
