I am 22 years old. I used to live in a remote area in Champasak Province called Donkhong Village. There was limited access to education, specifically for tourism and English skills. After finishing secondary school, my family did not have enough money to provide me the education at university level. So I went to the Buddhist monk college and started as a novice. After graduating at high school level, I could finally enter the Champasak University and follow my dream to study in the field of tourism and hospitality.
I started to work at the well-known Résidence Sisouk and became a waiter and front desk assistant. With support by Swisscontact’s PTHAS training programme and the local ‘Champasak Hotel and Restaurant Association’ (CHRA) I could attend English classes and upgrade my skills in Food & Beverage services. I was then selected to become a CHRA industry trainer and participated in the PTHAS-TOT programme.
This experience strengthened both my professional skills and confidence in my chosen career. So, in September 2018, I could lead the first training as an industry trainer for CHRA and successfully pass on my knowledge to participants from MSMEs in Sekong Province.
